LoomLab
LoomLab reimagines construction accessories as elements of placemaking. We blur the line between building and belonging, using the industry’s byproducts to shape experiences rather than just structures. We are working with construction fencing, pedestrian barriers and wire mesh as the spine of our proposal and the main building block of our intervention.
We are taking those to local businesses, residents and visitors to create Tapestry walls, where communities weave using materials from sites such as discarded hi-viz vests, banners, tarps and similar.
The Tapestry walls are then taken to the sites and transformed into a breadcrumb trail of interventions with wayfinding elements with added greening and accessible seating for all. Our proposal prioritizes adaptability and efficiency. Using modular elements and existing structures allows us to streamline delivery without relying on excessive fabrication. The modularity allows us to respond to the scale of sites and leave space for small elements like lamp-post wraps for wayfinding and information boards.
As an emerging practice, this is an opportunity to make a tangible impact on our city while challenging conventional construction methods. If selected, we will produce a complete design and access statement that fully outlines each site’s proposal in detail and outlines construction methods. Additionally, we will outline collaboration sessions to engage the Eastern City stakeholders in the weaving activity.
